Health Education (Diabetes, Hispanic/Latino Community)

The program provides health services related to diabetes to individuals in Los Angeles County. Services are targeted to Hispanics/Latinos. Services include disease/disability information, health/disability support groups, health education, outreach programs and voluntary health organizations. There are no geographic restrictions.
The community outreach program entails contacting Latino communities by canvassing a target population through door-to-door contact in neighborhoods where classes are held. Various classes are offered through the program, including diabetes classes, nutrition classes, exercises classes and cooking classes in order to provide information about diabetes, nutrition, exercise and obesity prevention. Support groups are led by a trained facilitator and groups learn skills need to modify inappropriate or destructive behavior.
