Bankruptcy Courts

The agency provides court services to individuals in Los Angeles County. Services include bankruptcy courts. Geographic restrictions apply; petitioners who live in or are located in the Antelope, San Fernando or Santa Clarita Valleys or coastal area north of the Santa Monica Mountains must file with the San Fernando Valley Office; all other petitioners file in downtown Los Angeles.

Bankruptcy petitions must be filed in the divisional office of the county where the debtor/company is located, with the exception of emergency petitions. Individuals must have prior approval to file an emergency petition outside of the county where debtor/company is located.

The agency has an online tool eSR to help individuals complete a petition packet when they have decided to file for bankruptcy without an attorney.

There is also a Self Help Desk at the Los Angeles and San Fernando Valley offices where attorneys can help with information about bankruptcy and forms.
