Adult/Child Mentoring Programs

Provider: BIG BROTHERS BIG SISTERS OF GREATER LOS ANGELES

The program provides youth services for boys and girls, ages 6 through 16 1/2 years who reside in Los Angeles County. Services include adult/child mentoring programs. There are some geographic restrictions; please contact the agency for more information.

The goal of the program is to empower youth to reach their fullest potential and to guide them toward positive development. The program matches volunteer mentors, who are 18 years and older, with youth mentees. Mentors spend three to five hours, twice a month on a one-to-one basis with their assigned mentee. Matching is done based on shared interests, personality and geographic proximity. Professional staff are available to provide support and offer guidance through any challenges the mentor/mentee friendship may experience.

Youth may be from one or two parent homes. Foster children may apply but must reside in a stable foster home for a minimum of 6 months prior to applying and should remain in the same foster home for an additional year and a half (minimum) once the mentee is matched. Children who reside in group homes are not eligible.
