Alcohol Use Disorder Education/Prevention
Provider: NATIONAL COUNCIL ON ALCOHOLISM AND DRUG DEPENDENCE - SOUTH BAY
The agency provides substance use disorder services primarily for adults who live in the South Bay/Harbor/Long Beach area. Services include a drop-in center, alcohol use disorder education/prevention, drug use disorder education/prevention, family preservation programs, comprehensive outpatient substance use disorder treatment, smoking cessation programs, specialized alcohol-related information and referral, and first offender drinking driver programs. There are no geographic restrictions.
The drop-in services are available to adults who abuse alcohol and include alcohol education and support services, twelve-step study groups, and drop-in self help groups. Outpatient services include group and individual counseling and outpatient treatment under Prop. 36.
The alcohol education and prevention services includes alcohol education presentations for junior and senior high schools, and an Adolescent Education program, 10-week program which focuses on alcohol/drug/tobacco education, acquiring program solving skills and developing a healthy drug free lifestyle. Urine drug screens available and 12-step participation strongly encouraged.
Alcohol education training is provided on request for service providers and community service organizations.
The specialized alcohol-related information and referral provides in-person and telephone information about community programs which address alcohol-related problems, and referral to these agencies.
The first and multiple-offender drinking driver programs are for court-referred adults. The first-offender program at the High Gain - Torrance site includes alcohol education, small group sessions, evaluation sessions and twelve-step meetings. The multiple-offender program at the High Gain - Westchester site, includes the same services but for more sessions, plus case management and re-entry services. Clients can also receive information about and referrals to additional community services.
The outpatient substance abuse program includes weekly group sessions with a doctor, one-on-one counseling and support groups. The program accepts both court ordered referrals and other referrals. The program lasts about 3 to 6 months.
