Sexual Assault/Incest Support Groups
Provider: VILLAGE FAMILY SERVICES , THE
The program provides mental health services for children and families. Some services are targeted, but not restricted, to the Spanish-speaking community; some services are targeted to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning people. Services include behavior management therapy; individual, family and conjoint counseling and support groups for victims of child abuse and sexual assault, and for foster children and parents; infant and early childhood mental health; and wraparound facilitation and community support for referred children. There are no geographic restrictions.
Counseling is provided for a wide variety of problems and concerns such as divorce, family communication, trauma, depression, anxiety and bereavement; teen support groups; in-home counseling for victims of crime; 52 week non-sexual child abuse program for parents who have abused their children as well as for parents who are non-offenders. The program also provides a peer support group for LGBTQ teenagers, ages 14 to 25.
The early childhood mental health services may include family therapy, Dyadic therapy, Play-based therapy, psychological testing, outpatient mental health, medication services and parenting education.
Additionally, The Village Family Services specializes in evidence based practices, such as, Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Alternative Family Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (AF-CBT), Seeking Safety (SS), Triple P Positive Parenting Program (PPP), Group Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Child-Parent Psychotherapy (CPP). TF-CBT: is a conjoint child and parent psychotherapy model for children who are experiencing significant emotional and behavioral difficulties related to traumatic life events; Seeking Safety: designed for adolescents with a history of trauma and substance abuse; PPP: a multilevel system of parenting and family support strategies; CPP: this practice is aimed for young children, infants to seven years old who have experienced a traumatic event and their caregivers.
Wraparound is conducted by a multi-displinary team consisting of a social worker case manager, a therapist and a parent "Partner". Sessions are conducted in the home and may involve just the child or the whole family as needed. The program accepts youth from age 8 to 18, and may continue for one year or longer. The service area is L A County SPA 2.
