HIV Testing

The early intervention program provides counseling, health education and health screening for people who are HIV but are not experiencing significant symptomology of AIDS. Counseling includes assistance with psychological, emotional, social and environmental difficulties related to HIV infection. Individual and group counseling is available to help people cope and adjust to their medical condition.
Health screening includes a medical evaluation that consists of physical exams and case management. Exams include additional lab test and screen for hepatitis, syphilis, tuberculosis and other conditions. Clients return every four months for monitoring. HIV tests are available on an anonymous and confidential, walk-in basis for anyone age 12 and older. The initial visit lasts about 30 minutes and pre-test counseling is provided. People are told when to return for test results and post-test counseling, usually within seven to 10 working days.
The agency participates in the LA County Healthy Way LA Contract Clinic program with additional support from the Ryan White Foundation. People who have AIDS/HIV and who qualify for Healthy Way LA may receive primary care at the main facility. The program provides primary care health coverage for low income people ages 19 to 64, who are L A County Residents, US Citizens, or are legal immigrants and who are not eligible under insurance plans, or other third party coverage such as Medi-Cal. Income must be at or below 133 % of Federal Poverty Level.
The Preventive Health Program provides HIV/AIDS, as well as STD services for youth between the ages of 12 and 17. Services include HIV testing and early intervention services for youth who are HIV but are not experiencing full-blown AIDS, as well as STD testing and education. All services are confidential. The program targets Long Beach residents, however there are no geographic restrictions.

Counseling includes assistance with psychological, emotional, social and environmental difficulties related to HIV infection as well as STD's, Tuberculosis, and other communicable diseases. Individual and group counseling is available to help people cope and adjust to their medical condition.
The agency also offers the HIV/AIDS PrEP program that provides pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) treatment for people who have high-risk HIV/AIDS exposure. PrEP includes a daily medication to reduce the risk of HIV infection.

The center enrolls patients for the AIDS Drug Assistance Program (ADAP), which provides FDA-approved HIV-related drugs at little or no cost to those who are eligible; call for more information.
