Neighborhood Revitalization

Provider: CITY OF LOS ANGELES DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS - OFFICE OF COMMUNITY BEAUTIFICATION

The program assists Los Angeles City residents to improve the appearance of their neighborhoods by providing equipment which residents can use in clean up projects and by providing graffiti removal services. The program is restricted to the city of Los Angeles.

Residents who plan clean up campaigns for neighborhoods, parks, and vacant lots can borrow paint, paint supplies, and tools such as rakes and shovels. In addition, the program contracts with 14 community agencies throughout the city of Los Angeles to remove graffiti from public property. Public property has priority, private residences and businesses do qualify for graffiti removal, but may have to wait for service.

"Adopt-a-Median" is a program that encourages community groups to adopt medians or parkways for the purpose of planting and beautifying on the condition that the group maintains the improvements indefinitely.

"Adopt-a-Spot" is a similar program which encourages community groups and businesses to take an active role in helping to maintain their neighborhoods. Group select areas which to maintain and keep graffiti or litter free. The program provides all maintenance supplies.
