Continuing Education

The academy provides health education services related to child birth for people of all ages in Los Angeles. Services include childbirth education and continuing education. There are no geographic restrictions.

The academy provides training for people who are interested in becoming affiliated teachers of the Bradley Method, a system of natural childbirth, referrals nationwide to teachers of the Bradley Method who have current AAHCC affiliation, and materials about natural childbirth. A list of teachers and information regarding this childbirth method is also available.

The Bradley Method can only be taught by AAHCC-affiliated teachers. Couples who are expecting a baby attend one class early in the pregnancy and a series of classes in the last trimester, receive a workbook and suggestions about other educational materials, learn about the importance of nutrition during pregnancy, and learn exercises to practice with the husband acting as a supportive coach for the wife. Couples then attend weekly classes beginning in the sixth month of pregnancy and continuing until the birth of the child.

The academy provides training for people nationwide who wish to be certified as Bradley childbirth instructors or educators who are affiliated with the AAHCC. Priority for enrollment is given to parents who have had a Bradley birth and have breast fed their baby who would like to teach others. People who do not have this who would like to teach others this experience but who have professional training in nursing or physical therapy with obstetrical experience may also apply. Affiliated teachers must continue their education in order to renew their certification annually.

The organization also offers a variety of books and videos for sale that relate to the Bradley Method and natural childbirth.
