Stroke Rehabilitation
Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES - RANCHO LOS AMIGOS NATIONAL REHABILITATION CENTER
The rehabilitation center provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient follow-up rehabilitative care for disabled people of all ages, who have orthopedic incapacities, spinal cord injuries, acquired brain injuries, strokes, neurological disorders, amputations, pressure sore management, diabetes, communication disorders, and rheumatic diseases. It also provides special services for older adults and for people who have Alzheimer's Disease and related disorders.
The main hospital provides rehabilitation services for pediatric patients and adults whose acute medical needs have been met at Los Angeles County or other acute care hospitals. People who have potential for rehabilitation and recovery are referred to Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center for these services which may include a variety of rehabilitation therapies, counseling for the patient and family, vocational counseling and post discharge referrals as needed.

The hospital also has a Language and Culture Resource Center to assist patients in obtaining translation and interpretation services, printed material, and other cultural related information. It also housed the Center for Applied Rehabilitation Technology (CART) which provides applied research on new assistive technology in the following areas: Seating and Mobility, Augmentative and Alternative Communication, Electronic Aids to Daily Living, and Computer Access and Use. Through the Assistive Technology Network, the center is able to provide a 30-day loan of some assistive equipment for clients to try out and assess in their own living spaces.
