County Board of Supervisors Offices
Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS - THIRD DISTRICT - SUPERVISOR LINDSEY P. HORVATH
The Board is the governing body of Los Angeles County that has both executive and legislative responsibilities. Services include an elected Board of Supervisors who represent the constituents of the five supervisorial districts of the county; it also accepts constituent complaints after an Ombudsman investigation has concluded.
The board enacts ordinances and rules that regulate the administration of county departments and special districts as well as public conduct in the unincorporated areas of the county. It adopts an annual budget for the county, supervises the activities of all county departments and acts as the liaison between the public and the various branches of government.
The board meets regularly and holds public hearings about specific issues. Each supervisor is responsible for selecting citizens to serve on a variety of county commissions and committees. The board appoints and supervises the Chief Executive Officer who acts as the principal administrator and financial advisor to the board; see the separate entry L A County Chief Executive Office.
Constituents may file a claim against the County for damages or personal injury. The claim form is available online at the Board of Supervisor's website and must be mailed or brought in person to the Executive Office at the Temple St. Address, Room 383.
Each supervisor has an office in the Hall of Administration. Some supervisorial districts also have field offices in outlying areas.
LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH Language capabilities vary among the supervisors' offices.
