Paratransit Driver Volunteer Opportunities

Provider: AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY - LONG BEACH

The agency provides transportation services related to cancer for people of all ages in Los Angeles County. Service includes medical appointments transportation and paratransit driver volunteer opportunities. Geographic restrictions apply.

Medical appointments transportation is provided through the Road to Recovery program. The program provides transportation to and from treatment for people who have cancer who do not have a ride or who are unable to drive themselves. Volunteer drivers donate their time and the use of their cars so that patients can receive the life-saving treatments they need.

Cancer patients should be ambulatory; and able to walk unassisted to and from the vehicle, their residence, and the treatment facility. If the patient needs assistance walking or requires a walking aid (such as a walker or wheelchair), and is unable to operate the aid by themselves, the patient is required to be accompanied by another person who can provide assistance.

Patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legally responsible adult such as a parent.

Transportation is provided according to the needs and available resources in the community.

Paratransit volunteers provide rides to and from treatment for ambulatory cancer patients.
