The agency provides health services for people of all ages with cancer and their families in Los Angeles County. Services include disease/disability information, health care referrals, referrals for health/disability related support groups, health problems counseling, medical equipment/supplies, nutrition education, and smoking cessation. There are no geographic restrictions.
The agency is a voluntary health organization that is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives from cancer and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, advocacy and education services.
The society provides grants and fellowships for organizations in the Los Angeles area that are conducting research that is directed at cancer prevention, detection, treatment and cure. It sponsors, supports or directly operates educational and advocacy programs including breast self-examination training for groups; cancer education for workers on the job; educational programs which are presented in schools; nutrition and cancer education programs; training and seminars for medical and allied health professionals. The society also maintains a speakers bureau which offers current information about cancer.
