Veteran Support Groups (Blindness)

The association provides support for blinded veterans, whether their blindness was service-related or not. Services include benefits assistance through VA programs, referral to mutual support groups, referrals to blindness-related rehabilitation and services, and scholarships for higher education.

Through the regional field service office, blind veterans may receive referrals and forms assistance to benefits available throuh the Veterans Administration and referrals to rehabilitation programs and technology to improve quality of life for the blind. Staff is accredited to advocate for compensation and pension benefits for blind veterans and can file claims for veterans and veterans families.

The Kathern F. Gruber scholarship fund awards one - year grants for tuition to eligible blind veterans that are renewable for four years. The Scholarship Application form is available online at the association's website. The amount of the grant varies.

Membership is not required for veterans to receive BVA services; however membership provides the means for the association to continue its outreach and support services which include a convention, a newsletter, field service offices around the county and numerous local peer support groups.
