Innocent Inmate Exoneration Programs

Provider: CALIFORNIA INNOCENCE PROJECT

The agency provides legal services for inmates who claim they have been wrongfully convicted of crimes. Services include innocent inmate exoneration programs. Geographic restrictions apply.

Services are restricted to individuals who have been convicted of crimes in the following Southern California counties: Imperial, Kern, Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside San Bernardino, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura.

Inmates must have a minimum of two or more years left to serve, including registered sex offenders and those on parole. The program assists with wrongful convictions as a result of a variety of issues including: previously ineffective legal counsel, shaken baby syndrome, and the three strikes law.

The agency investigates cases involving ballistics, fire investigation, police misconduct, firearm analysis, and prosecutor misconduct. The program accepts DNA and non-DNA cases.
