Perinatal Drug Use Disorder Treatment

The program provides community-based, residential substance use disorder treatment for men and women age 18 and older in the greater Los Angeles area, including pregnant women. The service includes residential alcohol use disorder treatment facilities and residential drug use disorder treatment facilities. Services are targeted, but not restricted, to African-American residents of South Central Los Angeles. Special services are provided for pregnant addicts. Women with children may keep children, age 5 years or younger, with them during their stay. The service area is primarily South Central Los Angeles.

The 71-bed residential unit offers a four phase program which lasts approximately one year and addresses the long and short term needs of substance abusing clients. Emphasis is placed on the development of interpersonal and vocational skills and occupational therapy. The last phase of treatment prepares clients for re-entry to society by allowing them to work outside while continuing to live in the facility.

Residential treatment services available for pregnant addicts include prenatal and postpartum care, and delivery performed at a local hospital. Residents who deliver babies are permitted to keep the infants with them in the program.
