Public Showers/Baths

The mission provides homeless support services in the Skid Row area of the City of Los Angeles. Services include adult basic education opportunities, including ESL classes; bathing facilities for men and for women; pastoral counseling for men and for women; shaving utensils for men; and vocational rehabilitation programs for men and for women. There are no geographic restrictions.

The Mission provides access to shower facilities and shaving utensils for homeless men. The mission also provides showers for women at Anne Douglas Center. In addition, pastoral counseling and chapel services are available for all residents of the Mission.

The Urban Training Institute component of the Mission provides adult basic education programs for homeless men and women who are residents in the program. Classes include ESL classes, GED preparation, literacy instruction, computer literacy and computer certification classes, basic subjects such as English and Mathematics. Academic classes are provided in cooperation with the LAUSD Belmont Adult School. The program also provides a vocational rehabilitation program that teaches job skills, workplace requirements, and mentored work experience within the Mission complex. The Career Development division prepares men for entry level positions and provides ongoing support to insure success as they enter the workforce.

The Anne Douglas Center for women is a residential component that also provides academic and vocational programs for homeless women. Job preparation experiences are available in administrative assistant, food service, medical clinic assistant, and receptionist. Support services include exercise programs, recreation and arts, and self-defense training as well as medical and housing support services.
