Section 8 Housing Choice Vouchers

The agency provides housing services for residents of the City of Santa Monica. Services include housing authorities, section 8 housing choice vouchers and section 8 rental assistance program rental listings. There are income restrictions for some programs; geographic restrictions apply.
The program is a local public housing authority that offers rental subsidies for Section 8 tenants of Santa Monica. Homeless individuals and families, people who have disabilities and seniors are given priority. The agency's goal is to assist low-income people secure decent, safe, and sanitary housing through the provision of Section 8 certificates and vouchers. Approved participants are responsible for locating available, privately-owned housing for which a landlord will accept Section 8 payments. The agency provides a list of owners who are willing to rent to Section 8 certificate holders.
Section 8 subsidies are provided in the form of vouchers. People who receive Section 8 vouchers may find housing which exceeds the Fair Market Rent Guidelines, but are required to pay the difference and may pay more than 30% of their income. Recipients of Section 8 funds are recertified annually to insure that they continue to meet the agency's criteria for service.
