The department provides recreational programs for people of all ages who live in Los Angeles County, including activities that are specifically designed for senior citizens at the Lynwood Senior Citizens Center. Services include arts and crafts instruction, dance instruction, music instruction, parks/recreation areas, personal enrichment, physical fitness, recreational activities/sports, recreational/leisure/arts instruction, skate park, social clubs/events, travel and tutoring services. There are no geographic restrictions.

It also administers two parks, a natatorium, a community center, meeting facilities, a youth center, and a Dial-A-Taxi program for seniors and people who have disabilities at the Lynwood Senior Citizen Center.

The classes and activities include music and dance classes, swimming lessons for people of all ages, youth and adult sports leagues, aerobics, public swimming, special interest and personal enrichment classes, holiday events, and a variety of clubs.

Youth Center activities include an after school drop in program that includes tutoring, scouting programs for boys and girls, computer availability, indoor and outdoor game opportunities including foosball and basketball.

The activities for seniors age 55 and older at the Lynwood Senior Citizen Center include a senior citizens club which provides numerous activities like bingo, cards, and trips. The senior center is also a congregate meal site for the Human Services Association.

The facilities administered by the department include Lynwood City Park and Community Center at the address above, and Los Amigos Park. Lynwood Park offers picnic shelters, baseball/softball diamonds, playground equipment, and a soccer field. Los Amigos Park provides play equipment for children. The natatorium houses a fifty meter indoor pool, a locker room, and shower facilities.

Bateman Hall can be used as a meeting facility; it includes a 600 seat auditorium and two meeting rooms which can each seat 150 people. All of the department's facilities are available for private rental.
