The facility provides hospital services for people of all ages in Los Angeles County. Services include education, emergency room care, an emergency alert program, emergency ambulance services, general medical services, inpatient services, outpatient services, and support services. Special programs include the Center for Rehabilitative Medicine, the Memorial Miller Children's Hospital, the Pediatric/Family HIV Clinic, the Women's Hospital. The facility is a designated Level I Trauma Center; Memorial Miller Childrens Hospital is a Pediatric Trauma Center. Some services are targeted, but not restricted, to Spanish-speaking people. Services are provided from two locations. There are no geographic restrictions.

Specialized services include children's health services, neonatal intensive care, women's health services and support services.

Health education includes community lectures and educational information on topics including cancer prevention and education, smoking cessation, prepared childbirth/alternative birthing courses, CPR, weight control, AIDS, drugs and preventive health care. The center also provides an auditorium, classrooms and audiovisual and broadcast facilities for public rental. Professional education is coordinated with the University of California at Irvine and Harbor/UCLA General Hospital.

A 24-hour electronic communication system is provided through Lifeline for people who are elderly, ill, disabled or unable to leave home and who live in the Long Beach and Orange County areas. The program provides small wireless devices that are worn by clients and which send signals to Lifeline Central if the client is unconscious, if the phone is off the hook, in the event of a power failure or if the individual manually activates it.

The outpatient clinic provides orthopedics, lithotripsy, arthritis and eye and breast exams, including a community outreach program which targets women who are age 40 and older or who have a maternal or personal history of breast cancer.

The Center for Rehabilitative Medicine provides inpatient and outpatient services for people who have acute or chronic rehabilitative needs. In addition, the department offers the Memorial Pain Management Program which focuses on the diagnosis, treatment and management of all types of pain through a multidisciplinary approach.

The Memorial Miller Children's Hospital provides comprehensive inpatient and outpatient care for children age 18 and younger. Services include neonatal and pediatric intensive care, acute care, specialized pediatric clinics, outpatient clinics, a pediatric AIDS program, rehabilitative care, medical evaluations for child abuse, a high-risk family intervention project and outpatient mental health services.

The Pastoral Care department provides bereavement counseling for adults and children who are experiencing loss, grief or bereavement. Spiritual guidance is emphasized; people of all religions are respected and welcome.

The Memorial Care Center for Women provides comprehensive health services for women. Services include specialized obstetrical and gynecological care and family planning assistance. The facility specializes in high risk obstetrical care and premature infants and in-vitro fertilization. Reproductive services include infertility counseling, genetic counseling, prenatal diagnosis, and medical assistance primarily for women age 35 and older who have been unable to have a child and for parents who have children who have genetic disorders or who have a history of miscarriages. Abortions are available for women who are referred by a physician after diagnosis has shown that the fetus has severe anomalies.

Support groups for postpartum mothers meet weekly at the Center for Women.

The center's social work department offers professional crisis intervention and counseling services to assist people who may need services within the hospital or community. The center also offers a physician's referral service to individual doctors who are on staff at the medical center and includes payment acceptance information for recipients of Medi-Cal and Medicare. The center also provides a blood donation and storage facility; support groups for people who have lung disease, cancer, and for family and friends of people who have Alzheimer's disease; and medical education for professionals.

The hospital offers various physical fitness classes such as a golf fitness class, a walking program for seniors and Tai Chi. LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH Spanish; interpreters are available for other languages.
