Correctional Ombudsman Programs

The Office of Ombudsman works independently as an intermediary to address complaints and resolve issues at the lowest possible level to family members or loved ones of individuals and individuals in the state corrections and rehabilitation system and in the division of juvenile justice system. Services include correctional ombudsman programs. There are no geographic restrictions.

The Office of Ombudsman listens, answers questions, analyzes situations, explains California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) policies and procedures and advocates for process fairness. Ombuds staff may provide advice, help develop options or provide additional referrals. They do not provide individual advocacy.

The Division of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) Ombudsman receives inquiries from youth, parolees, families, staff and outside stakeholders. The Ombudsman serves as an objective fact finder, discusses solutions, reviews policy and procedures and offers suggestions for the fair treatment of youth, parolees, families and staff.
