Home Delivered Meals

Provider: CITY OF HAWTHORNE DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES - SENIOR CENTER

The agency provides nutrition programs for adults 60 years and older who live in Hawthorne and the surrounding areas. Services include congregate meals and home delivered meals. The congregate meal serves a hot lunch five days a week. Participating seniors socialize, and may join recreational and educational activities. Round trip transportation for residents of Hawthorne only is provided with prior reservations.

Home delivered meals are available Monday through Friday for adults 60 years and older who are unable to leave their homes or to shop or cook for themselves. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements.

Application Procedure

Transportation requests must be made 24 hours in advance. Call for information about the congregate meal. Call to apply for the home delivered meals. Verification of eligibility is required. When home delivered meals has a waitlist, priority is given on a case-by-case basis.

Fees

The suggested donation for congregate meals is $2.00; although no one is denied service due to inability to contribute. Transportation through Gardena Dial-A-Ride is $ .50 for tokens and $.75 if paid by cash each way. Tokens can be purchase on site. The suggested donation for home-delivered meals for people over age 60 is $1.75; although no one is denied service due to inability to contribute.
