Home Maintenance and Minor Repair Grants/Loans

The agency provides housing services for low-income homeowners aged 62 or older living in unincorporated areas of Los Angeles County. Services include home barrier removal grants, home rehabilitation grants, and minor home repairs for older adults. Services are restricted to UNINCORPORATED areas of Los Angeles County Supervisorial Districts 1, 2, 4, and 5. 

The Handyworker Grant Program offers funding for minor home repairs to maintain the health and safety of eligible low- to moderate-income homeowners in the unincorporated areas of the First, Fourth, and Fifth Supervisorial Districts.

Grants will be made to applicants meeting the following criteria:

Elderly individuals (aged 62 or older), handicapped, permanently disabled, single heads of household, or large families (consisting of five or more people) who occupy and have a vested interest in a single-family residential property requiring health and safety-related repairs. A vested interest means that the individual(s) is/are listed on the title or grant deed.

Eligiibilty Requirements

- The property must be occupied by the owner.
- The property must be a single-family residence (no duplexes allowed).
- The property must be located in the unincorporated areas of the First, Fourth, and Fifth Supervisorial Districts.
- The property must have homeowner's insurance.
- The property must have been owned for at least one year.

Some eligible minor repairs for the Program are:

- Minor plumbing repairs
- Replacement or repair of exterior screens
- Installation of smoke alarms or carbon monoxide detectors
- Garbage disposal
- Appliances

The maximum grant amount available is $9,000.
