Welfare Rights Assistance

Provider: CITY OF ARCADIA RECREATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT - SENIOR CITIZEN SERVICES

The agency provides services for older adults age 50 and older who live in Arcadia and surrounding areas. The services include a congregate meal program, information about and referral to resources for seniors, health screening and education, information about and help to obtain government benefits, tax assistance, limited legal assistance, friendly visiting and telephone calls to seniors who are isolated or unable to leave their homes, volunteer opportunities, and a variety of educational and recreational programs. There are no geographic restrictions.

Programs that focus on health education are presented monthly, occasionally in conjunction with Arcadia Methodist Hospital. In addition, a 55-Alive Mature Driving Class is available for seniors who wish to enhance their driving skills and receive a discount on the liability portion of their car insurance.

Counseling is provided to assist seniors with questions they have about Social Security or other government benefits. In addition, the Center For Health Care Rights assists seniors who need information about Medicare or assistance with benefits.

Notary service and limited legal advice is also available. Seniors can also obtain help with income tax forms during tax season. Appointments are required for these services.
