Wellness Programs

Provider: CANCER SUPPORT COMMUNITY - SOUTH BAY

  The agency provides health education services for people who have cancer and their families, friends and significant others. Services include disease/disability information, health education, and wellness programs. There are no geographic restrictions.

    The program provides psychological support; individual counseling; health education; and mind, body and exercise programs for anyone diagnosed with cancer. The program focuses on assisting participants to deal with the fear, loneliness and physical and emotional problems they may be experiencing.

    Ongoing groups for specific types of cancer focus on areas like stress management and pain control, visualization and relaxation, or nutrition and cooking.

    In addition the agency provides various educational programs which are open to anyone who has cancer and his or her significant others. Workshops on topics like "Ask the Doctor/Expert," exercise, biofeedback and journal writing are held regularly; discussions with health care specialists are scheduled periodically; and social/recreational activities are frequently offered.

   A literature area is also available for anyone who is interested which contains materials about agency programs and other resources related to cancer and recovery.
