Disease/Disability Information

The agency provides supportive services for individuals who have cancer and their families, friends and significant others. Services include disease and disability information, health/disability related counseling, health education on cancer-related issues, terminal illness counseling and wellness programs. There are no geographic restrictions.

The focus of the programs are to assist people affected by cancer learn vital skills that enable them to regain control, reduce feelings of isolation and restore hope, regardless of the stage of their disease.

Counseling is available on a limited, short-term basis for individual, couple or family focused support for cancer-related issues for people with cancer and family members.

Educational workshops are conducted by physicians, nurses, mental health professionals, nutritionists and other professionals and are offered several times per month. Workshop topics include the latest in clinical trials, treatment options and pain management, nutrition, and how to enhance communication with healthcare providers and family members.

Wellness programs include classes in the Mind-body, Stress Reduction and Exercise program. Classes may include Yoga, Meditation, Reiki, Yoga, Tai Chi, Qi Gong, Pilates, Core Strength, Feldenkrais, Family Drum Circle, Singing Circle, Zumba and Nia (non-impact aerobics). Caregivers can also benefit from these stress reduction and physical activities and can use these classes as a way to care for their own physical and emotional health.

In addition computer research workstations and a lending library are available to community members needing access to resources related to cancer and recovery. Also social and recreational activities are frequently offered.
