Mental Health Related Support Groups

The center provides sexual assault services for people of all ages in Los Angeles County. Services include crime victim accompaniment services; domestic violence support groups; mental health support groups for adult and child victims of sexual assault; sexual assault counseling, sexual assault hotlines, sexual assault prevention; sexual assault/incest support groups; spouse/domestic partner abuse counseling; and workshops and symposiums. There are no geographic restrictions.

Services are targeted to survivors of rape and molestation, including those who are experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder. The center accepts people who have been victimized recently or in the past; it cannot serve people with severe mental or emotional disturbances, or who are substance abusers.

Staff provide accompaniment services at the hospitals, police stations, and courthouses throughout the county.

Hotline services include assessment, crisis intervention, and information and referral.

The center provides short-term individual sexual assault and post-traumatic stress disorder counseling for victims and significant others. It offers group counseling for sexual assault survivors; groups run in eight-week cycles. The center also provides a support group for adult sexual assault survivors, including adults who were abused as children. The group is a psycho-educational short-term group that follows a structured program designed to address a topic at each session. There are eight sessions. The topics may include symptoms of and dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder; rebuilding trust; and intimacy issues. The groups are led by interns and trainees supervised by an MFT.

The center provides sexual assault prevention through workshops and speakers to businesses, community groups, schools and professionals. Workshops cover rape prevention, the emotional trauma that affects survivors of sexual assault and other violent crimes, short and long term affects, and community resources.
