Issue Advocacy
Provider: CALIFORNIA BLACK WOMEN'S HEALTH PROJECT
The agency provides advocacy services for health issues relating to African American women and girls in Los Angeles County and the state of California. Services include ethnic advocacy, group advocacy, individual advocacy and legislative advocacy. Services are targeted, but not restricted, to African American females. There are no geographic restrictions.
The agency seeks to educate African American women and girls, policy makers and advocates of the importance of African American women's health issues, including mental health, reproductive health, and general wellness issues. The group also provides advocacy on food access issues: raising awareness about hunger and food issues, food "deserts" in urban areas, and related barriers to healthy eating in low-income communities.
The agency also provides technical assistance to community organizations by conducting workshops and programs about African American women's health issues.
