The agency is a local public housing authority that provides housing services for low-income residents of the City of Norwalk. Services include and Section 8 rental assistance vouchers. Geographic and income restrictions apply.
The City of Norwalk Housing Authority administers Section 8 rental assistance vouchers. Applications to be placed on the waiting list are available on a periodic basis. Preference for the waiting list is given to US Veterans and individuals who live or work in the City of Norwalk. To qualify for Section 8 voucher assistance, a family's household income must be below the median (50%) and have at least one legal resident or citizen living within the household. Once a household qualifies for assistance, it is the responsibility of the household to find suitable housing. This is not an emergency housing program.
A household's income includes income from all family members over the age of 18. This includes payments from welfare agencies, Social Security, unemployment, and wages. Income from assets such as bank accounts, insurance, real estate, and stocks & bonds will also be included.
