Child and Adult Care Food Programs
Provider: OPTIONS FOR LEARNING - BALDWIN PARK - CHILD CARE SERVICES
The agency provides child care and family service programs for people who live in portions of the San Gabriel Valley and Northeast Los Angeles. This office administers all of the agency's programs which include child care, child care information and referral, child care subsidies, a food program for child care providers, and technical assistance. The geographic restrictions vary for each program.
The food program for child care providers offers subsidies to licensed day care services who provide meals and snacks to children. These services are provided in Alhambra, Azusa, Baldwin Park, El Monte, La Habra Heights, La Mirada, Rosemead, San Gabriel, South El Monte, Temple City, and Whittier.
The child development centers provide a full day/full year child care program for children ages 3 to 5. The program offers developmentally appropriate activities for preschool children including pre-math activities, pre-reading activities, science, outdoor play, art, music, dramatic play, nutrition and parent education. Families may qualify for a full or partial State subsidy by meeting the guidelines developed by the Department of Education, Child Development Division. The Child Development Centers serve the communities of Covina, Glendora, West Covina, Rowland Heights, and South Whittier.
The Head Start Division (see the separate entry) and the State Preschool Division provide a half day preschool program for eligible families as well as a home based program for parents and their preschool children.
Early Head Start programs are provided for children, age 0 to 3 years of age, who live in zip codes 91744, 97148, 91790, 91791, and 91792. The service area is currently restricted to these zip codes, and there is a waiting list for service. The Early Head Start on-site program at the Renault St. EHS Center provides parent-child activities for Infants, age 0 to 1; Wobblers, age 1 to 2; and Toddlers, age 2 to 3. There is is also an in-home component for special needs children and at-risk pregnant and parenting women. The program emphasizes healthy living choices, smoking cessation and good nutrition to promote healthy pregnancies and healthy births.
The Surround Care Division (see the separate entry) provides child care before and after regular school hours for children ages 5 to 12. Full day care is provided during vacation periods. The Enrichment program provides after school enrichment activities for elementary and middle school children.
Subsidies are also available for families with children, age 21 and younger, who have physical, mental, emotional or developmental disabilities. Applicants must be referred by a doctor or an agency that can verify the child's disability or cooperate in obtaining verification. This service is provided to residents of Los Angeles County.
