Low Cost Home Rental Listings

The agency provides housing services for low-income families and individuals who live in Long Beach. Services include housing authorities, low cost home rental listings for Section 8 individuals, and section 8 housing choice vouchers waiting list is closed. Services are restricted to the City of Long Beach.
The Housing Authority administers the City's Rental Housing Assistance Programs. These Assistance Programs are designed to provide financial and technical assistance services to low-income, elderly, and disabled residents. These programs include Housing Choice Voucher Program (formerly known as Section 8 Rental Assistance Program); Project-Based Voucher Program (PBV); Housing Opportunities for Persons Living with AIDS (HOPWA); Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH); Homeownership Program; Shelter Plus Care and Homeless Assistance program (SPC), that works in conjunction with the Health Department's Continuum of Care Program; and Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS), a voluntary designed to assist families receiving HUD Housing Choice vouchers (Section 8) improve their economic situation and reduce public assistance dependence.
Low cost home rental listings for Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) individuals of affordable apartments, and other privately owned housing, is available on the department's website. The units often have waiting lists.
To be eligible for housing services, people must meet federal low-income guidelines. The agency's goal is to assist low-income people secure decent, safe and sanitary housing through the provision of Housing Choice (Section 8) vouchers. Eligible people are responsible for locating available, privately owned housing and a landlord who accepts Section 8 payments. The agency does not directly provide housing.
