Maternity Homes (At Risk for Homelessness)

The agency provides shelter services for homeless, pregnant women age 18 and older in Los Angeles County. Services include maternity homes. Pregnant women who are less than 8 months (32 weeks) pregnant are eligible for the shelter. The program is unable to accept women with children and is not accessible to women who use wheelchairs. There are no geographic restrictions.
Women receive all meals and clothing, including clothing for their infant. Most women stay for two months after the birth of their baby; longer stays may be arranged.
Residents must adhere to house rules and be willing to assist in household chores and cooking. Women are required to be drug and alcohol free, free from severe mental illness and able to live in a community setting. Women should be able to work or go to school.
The financial planning service consists of a matching savings program that is designed to prepare residents for their future.
Secondary services include career counseling, mental health counseling, child birth preparation, financial planning, infant care and parenting classes, independent living skills, nutrition education, and referrals for health services, and financial assistance.

Application Procedure
Call to apply. Applicants are screened to determine eligibility through a phone interview, call reference and a personal interview; CAID, proof of age, proof of pregnancy and TB test results are required. Intake for the program can take up to two weeks from the initial call to move in.

Fees are on a sliding scale based on the ability to pay.
