Disaster Specific Permitting Programs

Provider: LOS ANGELES COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS - ANTELOPE VALLEY BUILDING AND SAFETY OFFICE

The department provides disaster services for Los Angeles County. Services include building evaluations and permits, a disaster damage reporting hotline, sandbags/water diversion systems, and disaster related refuse removal. Some services are restricted to residents of unincorporated Los Angeles County and cities which contract with the department.

The department inspects buildings to evaluate damages, to ensure that they can be entered safely or to declare that they are structurally unsound. It also issues electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits.

The department's emergency operations center coordinates disaster response services related to flood control and public works. The hotline accepts reports of basin or street flooding, blocked storm drains, road closures, signal malfunctions and problems with water service. The department also removes disaster-related refuse.

A locator tool to find the nearest fire station providing sandbags is available at https://dpw.lacounty.gov/dsg/sandbags/
