Respite Care

Provider: PROJECT RETURN PEER SUPPORT NETWORK

The program provides mental health services for people in Los Angeles County, including those who are transitioning from institutions for mental disease (IMD's) or are recovering from mental illness. Services include helplines/warmlines, legislative advocacy, mental health-related support groups, psychiatric resocialization, online support groups, and respite care. There are no geographic restrictions.

In-person and online peer support groups are led by individuals who have been diagnosed with a mental illness and have lived experience. Groups are held weekly for 1-2 hours and may be discussion-based or activity-based. Curriculum and activities are created by the group facilitators.

The agency also runs training programs for those interested in becoming peer advocates or improving their skills.

Un Paso Mas and El Centrito de Apoyo, provide support services to the Latino community for both individuals and family members of those with mental health issues.

Hacienda of Hope and Hope Well offer short-term respite homes as an alternative to emergency hospitalization. Individuals may stay from 1 to 5 days and must have a residence to return to. This program cannot accommodate children, and individuals must be over 18 years of age.

The "Warmline" is a non-emergency, non-crisis talkline for people who need friendly contact after-hours. The program is run by peers who have been diagnosed with a mental illness and have lived experience.
