Extended Child Care

The program provides youth services in the Los Angeles Unified School district for students, age 5 to 12, in 195 participating elementary schools in the District. Services include extended day care, homework assistance, enrichment activities and tutoring services. Services are restricted to students from participating schools.

The afterschool program utilizes the services of staff and volunteers to provide homework assistance, recreational activities, and enrichment activities for students.

Curriculum and activities are planned and coordinated by L A's BEST/LAUSD professional staff. On-site staff also involve the youth in decision making to plan their week's activities. The program provides leadership opportunities and creative expression for the participants, as well as cognitive and academic experiences.

Individuals, including parents, grandparents, college students, may apply; representatives from civic organizations, senior volunteer programs, volunteer organizations are also encouraged to participate.
