Orientation and Mobility Training

Provider: CALIFORNIA STATE DEPARTMENT OF REHABILITATION - ORIENTATION CENTER FOR THE BLIND

The center provides services for legally-blind adults age 18 and older. Services include braille instruction, condition specific rehabilitation services, independent living skills instruction, orientation and mobility training, and vocational rehabilitation for adults with visual disabilities. There are no geographic restrictions.

This program provides training for adults with vision loss. Training is provided on either a day schedule or a residential basis. The length of training is an average of 7 months depending upon the needs and learning readiness of each participant. Classes include mobility training, cooking, computers, Braille instruction, independent living skills, non-visual organization and personal management. This is not a vocational training program, but it does offer participants opportunities to develop prevocational skills to pursue vocational training and employment as well as to function effectively in daily life.
