Ongoing Emergency Food Assistance

Provider: SOUTHBAY OUTREACH CENTER

The program provides emergency food for people who are in the general area of Gardena, Hawthorne, Inglewood, Lawndale, Lennox and Torrance, including people who are homeless or undocumented. Specifically, the area is bounded by Manchester Blvd. on the north, Pacific Coast Highway on the south, the Harbor Freeway on the east, and the Pacific Ocean on the west. Services include occasional emergency food assistance and ongoing emergency food assistance. People from other areas may be assisted if no other resources are available. There are no geographic restrictions.

For the occasional emergency food assistance the bag of food usually contains fresh produce, dairy products, and bread products. The amount of food provided is usually enough to last three or four days, depending on the size of the family. Food is available once a month. USDA commodities are occasionally available.

For the ongoing emergency food assistance (supplemental food program) which provides approximately $50 worth of food each week for eligible low-income families who have received emergency food assistance, there is a waiting list.
