Temporary Financial Assistance

The agency provides services to military personnel, veterans, and their families in Los Angeles County. Services include armed forces emergency services, interest free loans, military family/service support centers, military records, personal financial counseling, temporary financial assistance, veteran benefits assistance, and veteran reintegration counseling. There are no geographic restrictions.

The agency advocates on behalf of veterans and families of military personnel in order for them to receive the benefits to which they are entitled. Advocacy includes assistance with VA claims, discharge reviews and correction of military records.

Through emergency services the agency relays important messages between active military personnel and their families. These messages usually contain vital news such as the birth, illness or death of a relative. This service is provided by the agency's Armed Services Emergency Services division.

The agency provides financial assistance to families of military personnel when emergencies arise which require the presence of a family member. Cash is provided in no-interest loans or grants for travel expenses through the military aid societies. Financial assistance may also be provided in other emergency situations including the burial of a loved one.

Veteran reintegration counseling is provided through the Coming Home Series pilot program which focuses on reconnecting with others, managing anger, and recognizing post traumatic stress disorder, and traumatic brain injury.

Military families service/support centers services include the Coping with Deployments: Psychological First Aid for Military Families program. The program teaches resiliency strategies for family members and others to manage the stress of deployment.

Additional support services include courses such as CPR, first aid, water safety, health pregnancy-healthy baby, and baby sitting training.
