Adoption and Foster/Kinship Care Support Groups

The agency provides family support services for families in the South Bay area. Services include caregiver consultation and support; kinship caregiver support groups, kinship care subsidy programs; and parenting education, social clubs/events and specialized information and referral for kinship caregivers; doula services for at risk teen and adult women, family support centers/outreach and yoga for families in Spa's 5 (West LA) and 8 (South Bay).

Caregiver services are restricted to the cities of Bel Air, Beverly Glen, Beverly Hills, Brentwood, Castellammare, Century City, Culver City, El Segundo, Gardena, Harbor City, Hawthorne, Hermosa Beach, Inglewood, Ladera Heights, Lawndale, Lennox, Lomita, Malibu, Manattan Beach, Marina del Rey, Mar Vista, Mid-City, Mt. Olympus, Palos Verdes, Playa del Rey, Playa Vista, Rancho Park, Redondo Beach, Rolling Hills, Santa Monica, Sawtelle, Torrance, Venice, Westchester, West Hollywood, West Los Angeles and Westwood.

Support is available to relative caregiver families, with the goal of enhancing and promoting permanency, safety and reduced reliance on foster care as a placement option. Services may include advocacy, consultation with social workers, limited one-time financial assistance, recreational and respite opportunities.

The community doula program provides free physical, emotional and educational support for at risk or under served women who are pregnant or have recently given birth. Priority is given to pregnant teens, pregnant women with current or past history of mental health issues, domestic violence and/or substance abuse, and women who represent ethnicities with disproportionate poor birth outcomes. Services include prenatal visits, labor and birth support, and pregnancy and childbirth education. Postpartum support includes breastfeeding education and counseling, postpartum visits and mental health screening. Parenting support also includes exercises to promote attachment and bonding. Doulas work with staff and partners to connect clients to community resources, and also assist with applications for public benefits.

The agency maintains a network of community based organizations; parents may be linked with other supportive services or resources in their area.

On-site yoga is available for clients and the general public several times per week.
