Community Gardening

The agency provides neighborhood improvement groups called Neighborhood Action Councils (NAC's) for people of all ages throughout Los Angeles county. Services include child abuse prevention, community gardening, community organizing assistance and neighborhood improvement groups. There are no geographic restrictions.

The agency maintains and supports a countywide network of neighborhood action councils that are resident-driven. Resident members work together to build their own neighborhood-based identity and mission, and then design and lead neighborhood projects focused on education, health, safety and economic development. iHeart Wilmington is a resident-driven initiative to increase public safety, voter registration, equitable discipline policies in neighborhood schools, child abuse awareness and illegal dumping from local port industry related activity. iHeart Wilmington Youth focuses on issues that directly influence the quality of life for youth in Wilmington and surrounding communities.

Child abuse prevention is provided through the agency's initiative Connected Families, Strong Kids. Members of neighborhood action councils participate in a countywide collaborative to raise awareness and prevent child abuse.

The community garden provides fresh produce and plant life to local residents while providing a safe gathering place for community residents to connect with each other, and learn about healthy diets, sustainable planting and water conservation, and container gardening strategies.
