This agency provides WIC programs in California. There are no geographic restrictions.
WIC is a supplemental nutrition program which provides breastfeeding support and nutrition education. Food vouchers are also provided for breastfeeding women; children younger than age five who are low income and are determined by a health professional to be at nutritional risk; pregnant women, new mothers, foster parents, undocumented women and their children are also served.
Participants receive vouchers which are redeemable for specified food items at authorized stores. The food items include fruits and vegetables, whole grains, beans, cereal, cheese, eggs, juice, milk, yogurt, tofu, soymilk, peanut butter, canned fish, baby foods and infant formula. Vouchers are issued monthly and must be used within 30 days. If eligibility continues, women may participate in WIC for as up to six months after their baby is born, or up to one year if they are breastfeeding. Infants and children may participate until age five.
