Hairdressing/Nail Care Volunteer Opportunities

The agency provides volunteer opportunities to individuals who are at least 14 years of age and who live in Los Angeles County. Services include clerical volunteer opportunities, conference exhibit assistant volunteer opportunities, fund raising event volunteer opportunities, hairdressing/nail care volunteer opportunities for licensed cosmetologists and estheticians, and public speaking volunteer opportunities. There are no geographic restrictions.
Clerical volunteers support the agency by doing general office work including answering telephones, data entry, filing and mailing.
Conference exhibit assistant volunteers provide agency information to the general public at health fairs.
Fund raising event volunteers help plan, organize and staff agency fund raising events.
Hairdressing/nail care volunteers assist women who have cancer learn about make-up, skin care, hairstyling and other grooming techniques to help them cope with the changes in personal appearance that may occur as a result of chemotherapy and radiation treatment. Volunteers help enable women to feel some control over their lives and to increase their sense of self-confidence. Hairdressing/nail care volunteers are licensed cosmetologists or licensed estheticians.
Public speaking volunteers represent the agency by making presentations to community groups, health facilities, local government, religious institutions, and at agency events.
,br> The agency provides on-the-job training for all volunteers. Volunteers who work directly with cancer patients receive more extensive, year-around training. Please contact the agency for training specifics. The agency completes background checks for some volunteer and internship positions. Call to ask about certifications and any related fees, if applicable. Volunteers may be asked to verbally commit to a set length of service depending on the project or role.
