Work Study Programs

Provider: WEST LOS ANGELES COLLEGE

The college provides employment services for adults who live in Los Angeles County. Services include welfare recipient employment programs for CalWORKs eligible students, prejob guidance, job training, and work study programs for TANF recipients.

The program provides case management, educational assessment, educational and career planning, a broad range of training and vocational education programs and job development and placement services. The campus has strong support from local business and industry.

Work-Study programs for TANF and GR recipients provide part-time employment of up to 20 hours per week, for full-time (12 units) students. The program pays 75 percent of the students' wages for a period of six months. If the employer is unwilling to pay full wages after this time period expires, the student may be given a new job assignment. A CalWORKs participant may receive Work-Study assistance for a period of two years, while in school.

Support services for TANF recipients also include child care, health and psychological support services, and referrals to community services.
