Early Head Start Grantee/Delegate Agencies

The school district is a grantee agency for the Head Start and Early Head Start programs, which provide free child development programs for low-income children. The district administers 10 Head Start sites and two Early Head Start sites, including a home based program. Age restrictions apply; services are restricted to residents of El Monte zip codes 91006, 91007, 91016, 91731, 91732, 91733, and 91780.
The Head Start program serves families whose children are 3 and 4 years old with priority given to children who will be 4 years old and attending kindergarten during the following school year; or children ages 3 through 5 who have disabilities.
The Early Head Start Program serves pregnant women, infants and toddlers, ages 6 weeks to 3 years through center-based and home-based models.
Children can be placed on a waiting list when they are two years old.

Documentation for enrollment includes child's birth certificate; child's immunization record; proof of address such as a utility bill, or rent receipt; proof of income such as previous year's tax return, a check stub, TANF letter, W-2 form, and proof of medical insurance, if any.
Multiple agencies may provide Head Start or Early Head Start services within a given zip code. In such cases, the agencies will only serve a part of the zip code. Individuals must call all the agencies providing services within a zip code to determine which agency serves their exact address.
There are no fees for service.
