This is a supplemental nutrition program that provides food benefits through an electronic card that is redeemed at authorized stores for specified foods such as fruit, vegetables, milk, (Cow's milk, lactose-free milk, and soy milk available), eggs, beans, peanut butter, whole grains (tortillas, pasta, oatmeal, bread, brown rice, cereals, barley and bulgur), breakfast cereal, yogurt, cheese, 100% juice, tofu, canned fish, baby food, infant cereal, and infant formula. The WIC food package will vary based on participant age and other factors. Food benefits are issued monthly and must be used within 30 days.
Participants of the WIC program also receive regular nutrition education and one-on-one counseling with WIC counselors who can make individualized referrals and screenings for immunization, Medi-Cal, CalFresh, and more.
Lactation assistance, breastfeeding support groups, and access to free electric breast pumps may be available.
