Scouting Programs
Provider: BOY SCOUTS OF AMERICA WESTERN LOS ANGELES COUNTY COUNCIL - SANTA CLARITA VALLEY SERVICE CENTER
The council provides recreational programs for boys ages 5 to 20 who live in the western Los Angeles County area which includes the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys on the north, San Fernando Valley on the south, West Los Angeles and Beverly Hills on the east, and the beach cities on the west. Geographic restrictions apply for services.
The council provides a variety of activities and experiences that are designed to promote character development, citizenship training, self-reliance and physical fitness.
It provides the Tiger Cubs group for boys who are in the first grade, Cub Scouting for boys who are in the second through fifth grades, Boy Scouting for boys who are in the sixth through twelfth grades, and Varsity Scouting for young men in the ninth through twelfth grades. It also offers the Venturing program for young men and women who are in the ninth grade through age 20, and Career Awareness Exploring for young men and women in the ninth through twelfth grades.
The program focuses on positive personal growth and service to others and involves young people and their families in activities appropriate for the youth's developmental level. The activities may include outdoor programs, projects, summer camping, hobbies, career exploration, and community service; they are designed to help participants develop self-esteem, the ability to get along with others and to be part of a team, leadership skills, self-confidence, and social skills. The Explorer program coordinates with community groups within the service area to offer several Safe Ride programs for teens as well as career exploration. Programs are available throughout the western Los Angeles County area.
