Hazardous Materials Transportation Regulation

This is the federal regulatory agency responsible for establishing and enforcing environmental standards as specified by laws enacted by Congress. The agency works to control and abate pollution in the areas of air, water, solid waste, pesticides, radiation and toxic substances. The agency coordinates and supports research and anti-pollution activities by state and local governments, private and public groups, individuals and educational institutions. This office serves people who live in Region 9, which includes California.
In addition, the EPA provides the Safe Drinking Water hotline which provides consumer information about drinking water regulations, refer callers to technical publications and offers information about public education materials.
The EPA also provides air quality information through its national AirNow website. The site has an interactive map that also reports on fire and smoke levels.
