WIOA Programs (Adults)

Provider: LOS ANGELES UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT - MAXINE WATERS EMPLOYMENT PREPARATION CENTER

The center provides job training programs for adults and adolescents in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Training is provided in the areas of business computer operators, clerical workers, word processing, welding, sheet metal, auto mechanics and auto emission control and electronics assembly. The program includes a combination of theory and hands-on training five days per week for an average of 20 weeks and most students attend either a morning or afternoon session. Enrollment in the courses is open, enabling students to begin or complete their program on an individual time schedule. Pre-employment instruction including resume preparation, as well as assistance with job development and job placement, are provided for all students.

When a person applies to attend the center an assessment of the person's skills, interests, and abilities is done before placement. If a person needs remedial assistance in basic skills, s/he attends the on-grounds learning center along with or as preparation for the vocational training program. In addition, if the person needs assistance to learn English, a three-level ESL class is available for students as well as the public.

Support services may include transportation assistance, clothing for job interviews, books, supplies and emergency food.
