The agency provides volunteer opportunities to individuals living in Los Angeles county. Services include disability related reading services volunteer opportunities. Volunteers provide services targeted to individuals who are visually impaired or who have learning disabilities. There are no geographic restrictions.
Volunteers perform all aspects of producing audio textbooks including recording, directing, marking books, and quality control. The agency also provides training on how to describe graphs, charts, and maps for the recordings. Volunteer opportunities are also available in educational outreach and fund development. The agency does not complete background checks. The agency seeks college graduate volunteers. The agency asks that volunteers commit to serve two hours a day, one day a week, for six months. Any qualified individual may volunteer, however, the agency seeks volunteers who have technical abilities in math, science, computers, economics, and foreign language.
LANGUAGES OTHER THAN ENGLISH
The agency seeks both English speaking and bilingual volunteers.
