The battalion provides fire and rescue services for unincorporated Los Angeles County and for cities in the County which contract with it, including forest areas. Services include fire services and fire stations. This battalion provides services for the cities of Green Valley, Lancaster, Leona Valley, Palmdale, and Quartz Hill.

The department provides disaster services to help homeowners prepare against brush fires and floods. It provides advice and publications to help homeowners in brush fire areas reduce the risk of fire and to be prepared in the event of a brush fire. When flood warnings have been issued, the department provides sand bags to protect property from flood damage; it provides bags only, property owners must fill them.

The department's fire protection services include fire control and suppression, rescue, and fire safety. It inspects buildings and property for compliance with fire codes to reduce or eliminate fire hazards. The department enforces related laws, provides fire safety education programs, maintains fire breaks and inspects for fire hazard abatement. It also promotes cooperative development of watershed fuel management programs with state and federal agencies.
