Maternity Homes
Provider: VILLA MAJELLA OF SANTA BARBARA
The organization provides a maternity home and a support program to assist pregnant women aged 18 and older, including women who are homeless or undocumented. It cannot accommodate women with children. The home accepts single women who have substance abuse problems, who have at least 30 days of sobriety, and who wish to complete their pregnancy in a sober living environment. The agency has no geographic restrictions but gives priority to residents of Santa Barbara County.
The house can accommodate 8 women in shared rooms. Women may stay from 3 to 5 months after the baby's birth. The program provides showers, laundry facilities,s and access to a food pantry.
Advocacy to receive public benefits is provided for everyone.Residents may receive WIC and CalFresh assistance, as well as help to apply for Medi-Cal and CalWORKs benefits if they are eligible. Women may work while staying at home; however,r job training is not available through this program.
Every resident is required to help with household chores. Smoking and alcohol/drug use is prohibited. Residents are encouraged to attend religious services of their choice; the home is non-denominational, but provides support groups for emotional, spiritual and health-related support.
